We would like to dedicate the month of October to further explore DIY projects! In Make Room, we believe that not all things have to be bought off the shelf. You will be pleasantly surprised by how easy and satisfying it is to create something by utilizing the most obvious tool we have – our own hands! In this article we discovered and compiled some interesting masterpieces we can create just by using ropes!
Let’s start off with something relatively easy – a piece of wall art. The most you will need are ropes of different thickness and length, several tree branches of an appropriate size, nails to hang it up and some decorative hanging pieces that will look good together. Take it up a notch by acquiring some macrame skills if you have some time to spare and create a fancy looking piece of wall art. We found a great tutorial that taught us well on some beginner’s level macrame skills here below.
A large piece of jute rug can be pretty expensive – especially in Singapore. Among all the projects, this is probably our favourite because it is so easy to make and worth the patience. Depending on the design you want, the simplest would be a round jute rug whereas you can get more sophisticated with several sections of smaller coil of ropes and piece them together, perfect for a doormat.
What about something hanging from the ceiling? If you’re into fashion or simply love showcasing your favourite piece of clothes, why not onto this rustic sophisticated-looking DIY clothes hanger. Be creative and even hang your bike! A macrame curtain also looks pretty neat. Below we found a super cool DIY project with the use of ropes and wooden planks to make a hanging rope shelves.
Onto the details, rope can also look good as a knob for your drawer to give a nautical look. We can even make simple coasters out of it. Looks pretty challenging, but coiling rope over a car tyre can create an ottoman, or even a coffee table. We found a simple DIY project to create cute trash baskets – they are so simple to make!
